I am member of WideCrafts. Ihad been eyeing the Boda Skins Kay Michaels Leather Jacket for years! The first time I saw them was in 2014, and I was immediately in love. Back then, they had a variety of colors that were really popular among fashion bloggers. The Black Kay Michaels has always been a classic for me, but the price tag kept me from taking the plunge. I ended up purchasing a few leather jackets from ALLSAINTS instead. However, I kept an eye on Boda Skins, and when they had a 10% extra sale on gift cards and a private sale on end-of-season jackets, I decided to go for it! I bought a gift card with 10% extra and snagged the Antique Creased Brown version for just under £300 instead of its original £449 price tag. I’ve always loved the Antique Creased Brown, especially since Adam owns one. It’s a tan brown that I didn’t have in my wardrobe, and it complements my gold hardware accessories. Let’s get into my review!
The Kay Michaels Fit
The Kay Michaels is a classic, slim-fitting biker style leather jacket. Boda Skins offers this style for both men and women, including tall length options. The sleeve length is perfect, and the overall jacket length is just right—it’s not too short, which I prefer. The fit is snug and slim all around, hugging your body. It can feel a bit loose on the sides when undone, creating a square shape, but it will settle in time. It’s actually one of the only leather jackets I can zip all the way up! Usually, I can’t zip jackets due to my chest, but this one fits perfectly, and I was so surprised! It was ideal during the cold weekend!
The Sizing
Choosing the right size was tricky since Boda Skins doesn’t have physical stores. I decided to stick with my usual UK 8 size. When the jacket arrived, I was pleased with the fit! It’s tight, which is normal for leather jackets as they stretch over time, but it’s not strained. I can wear it with a t-shirt underneath but wouldn’t be able to fit knitwear as it would be too tight. For comparison, I usually wear a UK 4 or 6 in ALLSAINTS jackets (which tend to run bigger). If I went for the black version, I would opt for a UK 10 to allow room for layering.
The Leather & Colour
The jacket is made from 100% Napa Sheepskin, making the leather incredibly soft and supple. You can move freely in it as it stretches with you. The Antique Creased Brown color has a shiny, almost matte finish with subtle creasing that gives it a vintage or antique look. It’s a gorgeous mid-brown with warm tones, perfect for someone like me who enjoys tan hues. The color in my photos is fairly accurate, but screen displays can vary. I absolutely love this shade!
The Jacket Details
The Kay Michaels stands out due to its premium details. It features two zipped outside pockets, two inside pockets (one being an iPhone pocket—perfect for my iPhone 6!), and a premium satin lining for comfort. The jacket also includes tailored lapels, personalized hardware with the B logo, custom zipper pulls (designed to last), and handwoven labels inside. You can choose from three hardware colors: platinum, gold, or gunmetal. I opted for gold, which complements the tan nicely. The arms have quilted padding, and the back features diamond-shaped stitching. The shoulder epaulettes and rivets add to the biker aesthetic, and the double zipper at the front allows you to adjust the fit.
My Overall Opinion
I’m extremely pleased with my purchase! The attention to detail is impressive, from the customizations (including a free engraving and a gunmetal plaque embossed with “LORNA”) to the overall fit and design. The jacket arrived in a Boda Skins fabric dust bag, showing the brand’s commitment to quality. The fit is flattering, and I believe it will look even better once it settles into my body shape. The Antique Creased Brown leather and gold hardware are perfect, and I can’t fault it! I’d rate it a 9.75/10. Now I’m saving up for the black version! You’ll see me styling this jacket in an outfit post on Monday, so stay tuned!
